The One About The World

in nearly every corner of the world, darkness presses close and whispers

i am winning

he watches as brother turns against brother

as blood flows from theaters and bombs go off at birthday parties

darkness smiles as refugees are turned away

as children die for the sins of their parents

i am winning, he whispers

as another baby washes ashore

darkness sinks in further, gets comfortable

as parents disown their children

and churches bar their doors to those who are searching

i am winning, darkness smiles

he cackles as the inky black creeps further into the world

and those who claim to have light

pause with their hands on the switch

to argue about who, exactly, is worthy of the electricity
